Is this course right for me?

Target Audience: Any staff involved in learning and teaching 

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) empowers people to change the way they think and work towards a sustainable future. These skills and competencies need to be embedded in every graduate from our University, and so through our ESD working group and the Centre for Sustainable Development, we want to ensure we support and equip the staff at Strathclyde with the skills, tools and inspiration they need to mainstream sustainable development across all of our teaching and learning.  

Training will be delivered by Engineers Without Borders UK – and is specifically designed for all Faculties. 

Course Outcomes/Objectives;

• Provide a shared and broad understanding of sustainable practice. 
• Inspire and champion the necessity of an inter-disciplinary approach to solving complex real-world problems. 
• Identify key actors at Strathclyde that can drive the organisational and cultural change 
• Share tips and techniques to enhance your teaching  
• Identify barriers to improving teaching on this and upskill academics in responding and dissolving traditional barriers. 
• Accelerate the training of academics  

The themes for each week are as follows;

Responsible (Wednesday 14 July)

• Addressing our global challenges  

• Case studies to explore critical thinking, reflection and ethical  decision making  

• Tools and techniques 

Purposeful (Wednesday 28 July) 

• Project based learning & Facilitation  

• Learn and experiment with various techniques  

• Meet others doing project-based learning

Inclusive (Wednesday 04 August)

• Participation and inequality – case studies  

• Process of designing education for Sustainable Development  

Regenerative (Wednesday 18 August)

• Going beyond mitigating impact  

• Building creativity skills to set project briefs, development of ideas 

It is encouraged to attend all sessions.  Once you have attended one session, you may then book on to the next session. 

Cancellation Policy

When applying for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* to your department if you cancel within 5** working days or you do not attend, and a £25 charge for cancellations/ non-attendance between 6 and 10 working days. There will be no charge for cancellation made 10 or more working days before the event. Notifications should be made to OSDU@strath.ac.uk

A department is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary pre-requisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you must attend ALL parts of the course. If you fail to attend any part you will be charged as outlined above.

*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance of course of 1 days duration or less. For some courses there may be a higher cancellation charge and if this is the case you will be advised of this at the time of booking.

**Any bookings made within 10 days of the event will incur the charges as specified.
