This sessions offers the knowledge and skills to communicate research through the media.  It covers broadcast interview training and with participants given tips and advice on techniques and equipment; social media training; training on pitching articles to broadcast and digital media and also discussion on how to understand what the media are looking for.  

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Be able to identify possible stories within their research
  • Be able to pitch stories and ideas in the format required.
  • Understand the main do’s and don’ts for broadcast media.
  • Understand the different approaches to podcasts, on-camera, and radio.

The main objectives are to be able to understand and negotiate the media and journalism world; identifying key contacts; pitching ideas and stories; speaking on mic in live and pre-recorded sessions; giving expert comment and the techniques for being interviewed.  Speaking to camera is also included.
