Is this course right for me?

Target Audience: Early career researchers and academics who are or may be commercialising University research.

The workshop will have a specific focus on intellectual property, routes to commercialisation and business modelling, participants will learn the concepts and skills needed to identify commercial opportunities even at an early-stage of research. 

This one-day, practical workshop will expose academics and researchers to leading edge ideas and principles which will help develop their commercialisation skills. The masterclass will be a fast-paced introduction to the knowledge, concepts and attributes necessary to understand how to identify, plan and progress commercial opportunities.

Participants will walk away from the masterclass with a better knowledge of:

• The University's commercialisation process, position on IP ownership and support for inventors.
• How to identify opportunities for existing research.
• The tools necessary to develop and progress a business model.
• The various forms of intellectual property and how to protect commercial ideas.
• Routes to commercialisation.

We’ll end the day with a special panel discussion from Strathclyde academics who are currently commercialising research.

This masterclass is being hosted in partnership with Research & Knowledge Exchange Services, Strathclyde Entrepreneurial Network and the Organisational Staff Development Unit. It is open to early career research staff, academics and select postgraduate researchers who have the potential to commercialise research through licensing or spin-out company formation. It is designed to prepare participants for programmes such as the Innovation to Commercialisation of University Research (ICURe) programme, Scottish Enterprise High Growth Start-up Programme and the University’s stage-gated process for supporting commercialisation.

Cancellation Policy

When applying for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* to your department if you cancel within 5** working days or you do not attend, and a £25 charge for cancellations/ non-attendance between 6 and 10 working days. There will be no charge for cancellation made 10 or more working days before the event. Notifications should be made to OSDU@strath.ac.uk

A department is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary pre-requisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you must attend ALL parts of the course. If you fail to attend any part you will be charged as outlined above.

*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance of course of 1 days duration or less. For some courses there may be a higher cancellation charge and if this is the case you will be advised of this at the time of booking.

**Any bookings made within 10 days of the event will incur the charges as specified.
