Is this course right for me?
Target Audience: Researchers (staff & PGR students)
This workshop will guide researchers through the rudiments of research data management planning and will look at the various tools & methods available when implementing/embedding a DMP into a project.
Attendees will be encouraged to make a start on a Data Management Plan (DMP), with the anticipation that they will have a ‘shell’ (first draft) DMP in place by the close of the session.
By the end of this course, attendees should have an understanding of best practice in research data management notably, how DMPs can improve collaborative projects, along with an awareness of their importance to the grant application process.
In this practical workshop, we will look at the options available for drafting DMPs and - after selecting a preferred template/method - attendees will work through the key components - as listed below.
- Data collection
- Documentation and Metadata
- Ethics and Legal Compliance
- Storage and Backup
- Selection and Preservation
- Data Sharing
- Responsibilities and Resources
Data Management Plans are a key element of best practice in research data management & sharing in higher education research.
They also provide a framework for how research data is managed over the course of a project/ research studentship.
