Target Audience: Those who work in a front-facing role with students or staff in a support or advisory role such as in University Residences, Estates and Security services, HR, Student Advice and Health Services, Student Advisors, OH, Academic Course Administration

The University’s Gender-based Violence Policy outlines its commitment to supporting members of the campus community who have experienced any form of GBV.  GBV can include domestic abuse, rape and sexual assault, stalking and harassment.  Experiencing or recovering from GBV can have a detrimental impact on a person’s ability to work or study.  The University can be a vital source of support for students and staff who are experiencing or have experienced GBV both on and off campus. This course aims to raise awareness of gender-based violence and how it affects the campus community. This interactive course is led by GBV specialists from Glasgow Rape Crisis Centre and will include discussion, exploring scenarios and case studies.  The course is recommended for those considering undertaking GBV First Responder Training: Responding Effectively to Disclosures of Gender-based violence (GBV)

 Objectives/Outcomes of the workshops:

• To explore the causes and effects of gender-based violence
• To explore gender, sex and gendered roles
• To highlight the different forms of gender-based violence, who is affected and who is responsible.
• To explore how the needs of those who experience gender based violence can be met

Prerequisites

Cancellation Policy

When applying for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* to your department if you cancel within 5** working days or you do not attend, and a £25 charge for cancellations/ non-attendance between 6 and 10 working days. There will be no charge for cancellation made 10 or more working days before the event. Notifications should be made to OSDU@strath.ac.uk

A department is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary pre-requisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you must attend ALL parts of the course. If you fail to attend any part you will be charged as outlined above.

*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance of course of 1 days duration or less. For some courses there may be a higher cancellation charge and if this is the case you will be advised of this at the time of booking.

**Any bookings made within 10 days of the event will incur the charges as specified.
