    The course will focus on tools and techniques for developing confidence in general and the confidence to behave in an assertive manner in your dealings with others in the workplace. It is aimed at support staff in non-supervisory or non-managerial roles.

Is this course right for me?

Target Audience: Support staff in non-supervisory or non-managerial roles

The course comprises one half day session where we will focus on the aim and objectives listed below, and a follow up session where the group will discuss how they can successfully apply their learning in the workplace. Attendance at both session is compulsory as part of the course. The course is interactive using group work, personal reflection, discussion and role play. The course aims to help delegates develop confidence in their skills and role and to behave in an assertive manner through:

  • Understanding the concept of assertiveness and be able to identify assertive, aggressive and passive behaviours in themselves and others
  • Identifing the benefits of assertive behaviours
  • Being able to choose to use skills to behave in an assertive manner

Prerequisites

In order to get maximum benefit you should attend both modules. The first Module is on the 29th Jan and second is 13th Feb. Please check the dates to ensure you can attend both modules. You will automatically be booked on module 2 after attending the first module.

Cancellation Policy

When applying for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* to your department if you cancel within 5** working days or you do not attend, and a £25 charge for cancellations/ non-attendance between 6 and 10 working days. There will be no charge for cancellation made 10 or more working days before the event. Notifications should be made to OSDU@strath.ac.uk

A department is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary pre-requisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you must attend ALL parts of the course. If you fail to attend any part you will be charged as outlined above.

*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance of course of 1 days duration or less. For some courses there may be a higher cancellation charge and if this is the case you will be advised of this at the time of booking.

**Any bookings made within 10 days of the event will incur the charges as specified.
