Target Audience: Postgraduate Research Students

So, what's the writing you need to get on with; thesis, papers, reports, grant proposals, posters, CV, job applications? The need to write is clear in an academic or research setting, but despite that necessity, many don't enjoy actually writing. From writer's block, to fear of feedback and even perfectionism, there are many ways we can trip up the writing process. This workshop aims to give a helpful kick-start to the writing process and to help develop creative and productive writing habits, as well as to gain insights into some of the fundamentals of academic writing.

By the end of the workshop participants will have:

  • Shared good practice on writing and working with the literature
  • Given and sought feedback on written work and published articles
  • Reflected on plagiarism and ways to avoid it
  • Reviewed your current approach to writing and considered helpful writing habits
  • Developed a personalised set of actions that will support your writing
  • Applied all these to real writing situations: from Thesis to Papers and all those listed above
